If you are interested in a scottie… please ONLY go to a breeder that belongs to the STCA (National Club) or
a Regional Scottish Terrier Club.
Check out breeders online (click here).
I am so glad to find you. We have known the special love of and for Scottish Terriers when we brought home our Megan and Mackerbie over fourteen years ago. Since then we have rescued McKittrick, sisters Heidi and Lexie, and lastly,Captain Quint, aka “pissant”. Each had a distinct personality and place in our hearts. My reason for contacting you is to make anyone who sees this to please be aware that our precious Scots have a high risk for cancer. We lost Megan in December, one month to the day, we learned Mackerbie (my heart and soulmate)has melanoma. Dealing with has been heartwrenching. PLEASE,educate yourself about early detection and treatment of cancer. Bladder cancer has the same symptoms as bladder infection, as an example. Be aware of any bumps,or skin problems. I found the lump that came up suddenly on Mac’s face and had him immediatly checked by the oncologist and to my heartbreak, learned it was melanoma. I’m giving him all or any treatment that will help but I have to be strong enough to not keep him here for my sake. I love him more than I could ever express, and I will send him gently to the bridge when he lets me know it’s time. I am so grateful to have found this site, you people understand.

I recently adopted a Scottie but was only able to keep him for two days. He loved my wife, children, and myself very much but he could not stand my collie, even attacked it. I would love to have one of these dogs, do you think that if I got a puppy he would grow to love the collie. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I was told this was not typical of the breed.

What a website!! Congratulations! I’ve reached it by accident and just couldn’t stop! Of course I will be back regularly. Being a small German Scottie breeder for 15 years (Prefix “Sir Darnley`s”) and I am delighted to find all pedigrees of my offsping. My Scottie family are 5 lovely little girls: Busy Buzzy (nearly 14 years old), Celtic Cindy (13 Years), Gretna Green (10 years), Jackanapes Josy (7 years) and Kiss-Curl Kylie (6 years). At the moment I’m working on my own homepage and will let you know when it’s finished. Happy new year and best wishes from Germany!

My name is Linda and I’am a proud owner of a 2 year old ACK Black Scottish Terrier named “Kimmie”. She was born 10/31/00. She’s my Halloween baby. We purchased her in Florida in February of 2000 and brought her to Maine with us in the summer of the same year. Her first snow storm of that following winter was just the cutest. I put her out that evening off the back porch to do her business and she just jumped around in the snow like it was water. She loved it. I have also read that you should’nt let scotties swim, but Kimmie loves the water. She is my southern bell who does’nt seem to mind the Maine winters. I have one child, a 10 year old boy. Kimmie of course is considered the daughter I never had. I have always wanted a scottish terrier from the time I was a child. To those who are thinking of purchasing one they are a lot of work and also a lot of joy. They demand a lot of one on one attention. Kimmie is also one of those that needs to be on a leash 24 seven. My joke with my husband is that I should have named her hot-top. As soon as we give her that litttle bit of freedom, off she’ll go. But then again we own a party boat and live near a river. In the summer months we spend a lot of time on the boat. Just mention a ride and she’s ready to go. To all those who are about to ge their first scotti, good luck and enjoy, they’re full of personality. Happy Holidays to all.

I have a lovely Scottie Male of 10 months old called MacGregor or Mac for short. He is so loving, lively, intelligent and comical and devilish too. I agree the breed is not as popular in England as the West Highland, and especially in this area. I was very lucky to find a puppy. I am so glad I held out for one as I would not trade him for any other dog. They are a wonderful dog, so bright and full of life.

We are lucky enough to have a 10 month old female Scottie in our lives and I would never, ever have another breed of dog now. In England they are not so popular as Westies but we love ours to bits. Nothing on earth is better than a Scottie dog and nobody who shares a home with one should ever be unhappy. Our little Scottie loves life, loves us and loves being a Scottie. We plan to find a friend for ours quite soon and I would be happy just to fill our house with them. I wish we had a Scottie club close to us in England so we could socialise with other Scotties. They are the closest thing to perfect I have ever seen.

My wife got us a Scot about 6 weeks ago; he is now almost 5 months; a stout black, furry little man with no other color except his pink toungue and the whites of his eyes ! WHAT A DOG ! I have had a few differant breeds, but no one like this one ! We named him McGlynn’s ‘Piper’ Finagle McDuff, and he is a live wire. Our big furry cat is quite curious and taunts him (playfully) but he snaps his jaws and has had an orange goatee afterwards a few times ! Neither cries out so it must be play…but he does get jealous when the cat is up on my wife’s lap and he’ll tinkle a few drops to be bad. Lucky for him, its too funny to be ticked off – & lucky its an old rug, too. I bought some flue pipe to train him to Earth Dog, and he gets better every day. we love him so. Great page – we’ll be back ! C L S & P

Web site well done! Noticed several concerns regarding health issues. Great Scots Magazine has extremely well written, easily comprehensible health issues just for us! Look deeper and request info from the editor/publisher if having difficulty. Please help these wee ones in their concerns. Secondly, for those seeking another Scot, please consider your state or area rescue. MN just had their reunion. It was wonderful! The horror stories are real, however, to see the change when these ‘find their new lease on life’ and are able to experience heaven here on earth. If for some reason a placement may not be ideal, do let your rescue person know so someone else can perhaps be a better match and again one can be sought for you. Three Scotties have us, one a rescue; a classy imp! We will definitely go rescue again!

H there! My husband and I adopted the cutest black scotties! They are 10 weeks old now and growing very quickly. It’s amazing how their personalities have shapen already. Conan and his sister Dolores are very different in their own respect and they’ve crept in our hearts very fast! They are like our children and we hate to leave them home alone when we have to go to work.

we have enjoyed having scotties around our home for last 7 years, we have a male bringle 7 years his name is Lord Ebony, female 3 1/2 years black brindle who is pregnant and due 9-21-02, an there daughter lady diamond bringle 1 1/2 year, all are babies are spoiled and have us well trained. HERE IS COMMENT TO awney@aol.com, OUR STORY IS A TRAGIC, WE JUST LOST OUR WESTIE, HIS NAME WAS “GUERO” WHITE IN ENGLISH. OUR YOUNG DOG WAS PLAYING WITH GUERO AND HER LOWER TEETH GOT STUCK ON HIS COLLAR SO THEY KEPT TWISTING TO GET LOOSE BUT INSTEAD IT KEPT GETTING TIGHTER AND TIGHTER AROUND DIAMONDS LOWER JAW AND GUEROS NECK AND WE HEARD THE SCREAMING, WE COULDN’T LOOSEN THE COLLAR AND FINALLY WERE ABLE TO CUT THE COLLAR, BY THAT TIME GUERO WAS LIFELESS, SO AM WE DROVE TO THE E.R. VET I GAVE HIM CPR, ALL WE WANT WAS JUST A LITTLE HOPE, BUT THAT NIGHT OUR VET WAS ON THAT NIGHT, SHE TOLD US THAT GUERO HAD JUST PASSED. BUT THAT SHE NEEDED TO LET US KNOW THAT HIS NECK WAS BROKEN, THAT IN TRYING TO GET LOOSE IT HURT HIM. OUR BOY WAS HAD ONLY TURNED ONE YEAR. UNLESS YOU ARE A DOG LOVER YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THE LOSS OF A SPEACIAL BOY. IT WAS SO FUNNY THAT DAY HE HAD A GREAT DAY A BARBEQUE AND SWIMMING TO SEE HOW MUCH DIRT COULD STICK TO HIM HAHA , BE CAREFUL WITH THEIR COLLAR, YOU JUST NEVER KNOW. WE MISS HIM SO. WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH

I adopted a Scottie and named him after a friend I lost during Desert Storm with the Marines. His name is Angus Stewart MacTavish and he is fiercely loyal to my wife and myself . He is so smart that he knows when I get off work and will switch his position all day from the bedroom to the front door when-ever I arrive at six. This has been going on for twelve years now . Without any former training , he will march sharply along my side while on lead , until he finds a CAT , then all bars don’t hold ! I saw some of your responces concerning alergies and Scotties ? If you are alerigic to the Scottie … get another dog like a Shitsue ! Steve , Angus and Kathie Parker

I can’t think of a better combination than what we have–a Scottie and a Westie. Our girls compliment each other so well. We have quite an age gap, though. Our Westie, Snowflake, is eleven, and our Scottie, Glinny, is one and half. Our first Scottie, Licorice, is on the Rainbow Bridge waiting for all of us. There is nothing better on this planet than dogs–and among them nothing better than terriers!!!

What a lovely site. I have a Scottie bitch named Kirsty who is totally adorable. The first dog I ever had in my Scottish home was a Scottie called Hoots Mon and I have searched for years in Zimbabwe to get another Scottie – finally my daughter found a breeder last year. Kirsty joins my other three dogs with whom she gets along very well – but she chases my two cats!

I am proud to state that I am the daughter of the foremost Scottie lover/breeder Marion Reid Gallaway of St.Catharines. I grew up with a Scottie. He was my friend, my guardian, my love. MacTavish was always there for me! My mum also grew up with Scotties, and I had the eternal pleasure of meeting Heather in Scotland. My Granpa always took us on walks with Heather. Scotties are the best for families!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been blessed with my life with Scotties. We, Fern and John, have had two scotties, first a female beautiful black, Charlotte, but from a puppy farm, and had a emzyme problem with her spleen and lived 8 years. It went quick and costly, we had our Jewish Vet say a prayer and she went smoothly…I’m never the same. But now we have Dylan, AKA Petnik MacArthur, born in South Africa and traveled…to Holland then to Philadelphia, where we met him ( 10 days after Char ) and he is the most perfect dog, a real joiner and member. He has boy friends and girl friends and loves his people, as we love him.

My 8 year old Scotttie, Holden, was recently diagnosed with gastroenteritis. She has a history of a sensitive tummy with occassional bloody, loose stool.I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has had experience with this condition. She is so precious to me. I am very concerned.

We just got our first Scottie. Sami is 3-1/2 months old solid black Scottie who has a mind of her own and is also very loving, especially when she is tired and wants to curl up in our lap for a nap. Sami already knows how to get anything she wants just by looking at us with her big black eyes and she loves to give (and get) kisses. She already has learned to ring a bell to go outside. We are anxious to have Sami join us on our camping trips this spring and summer. We have only had Sami a month and a half but wouldn’t trade her for anything. We fell in love at first sight.

Just found this site while trying to look for health information about Scotties. I now have Watson MacTavish, my fourth Scottie, who was 13 yrs old yesterday. I discovered a growth on Watson’s face two weeks ago today, which turned out to be a large, ugly mass on his upper left gum. I got the biopsy results yesterday and he has malignant melanoma. Am taking him back to the vet tomorrow night for a checkup and they will take some xrays, I believe to find out if it’s anywhere else in his body. Has anyone else had a Scottie with this type of cancer? I’d like to know how the disease affected him/her. Thanks for any info you can provide. Kathie

My father grew up an only child, but not really because he had “Bonnie”. I had 3 siblings, and 2 consecutive “Bonnies” while growing up. I am 45 years young and after wishing and I thought onll dreaming, I have had Bonnie for 3 years now. I am so happy to find this site , and also to prove I am not “crazy” to be so crazy about my”shadow”, one of the many names I’ve given her .I am just learning computers now, and all I want to do is search out scotty anything. The best to all of you, I’ll be back here often.

I have had Bella for nearly 10 years now. She is a beautiful Scottish Terrier and will celebrate her 10th birthday on 24th April this year. She is full of character, very set in her ways and has a great knack of twisting you round her little paws!! She has been a wonderful friend, pet, companion over the years and the family love her to bits. I have only met a few scotties through the years since I have had Bella – perhaps they are not so popular in this part of the country. It has been very interesting reading other people’s comments and would love to talk to other people who are lucky enough to have experienced the joy of having a scottie.

What a great site, I have a 5 year old Scottie and a 5 year old Scottie X, which we rescued from a closed down puppy farm approx 3 years ago. They have come on very slowly and still hate strangers except when they have sausages !!!! They are the best breed, all individual characters and very stubborn, people laugh at us at dog obedience, as they do their own thing in their own time. I would love to hear from other people with the same obsession especially people in the South of England

Mandy is our second Scotty. What a sweetheart. Watson, our Scotty of 14 years, died Jan 2001. He was an important member of the family, lovingly referred to as the building inspector. We have had Mandy for over a year. She is a real drama queen. Two dogs with very different personalities but both distinctly Scotty. I’ve discovered that if I can get Mandy’s attention, she will do what I ask, but overcomming her intense need to search out those scents is very difficult.

My first Scottie was a dream other than he had all the things wrong that a Scottie can have….allergies, cramp, bleeding. He lived 12 years..he was truly a great little dog that loved his family and life. He died because we lived too far away from a vet and he bled to death. That was before I knew about all the things that a Scottie can suffer from. I didn’t know that his problems were due to poor breeding. We dealt with them and loved him and mourned his death. I was unable to find another in our area so we contacted the Scottie rescue in Kansas City, Mo and Duffy picked us. No two dogs are alike and if you get a Scottie just because of the last one, then you will be disappointed. Duff is not Josh but he is a very loving dog if you only give him a chance and understand that he had been in a lot of homes and pounds before he came to us. He is still very wary around small children and strangers. He hides if you pick up a belt or a newspaper too fast (one can only imagine why). I would still adopt him in a minute. He gives us a warm welcome when we come home and loves us in his own way.

I have always grown up with scotties, and have two now – Rocky and Annie. Did anyone see ABC’s 20-20 the other night? They interviewed President Bush at his ranch, and a Scottie was running along in the background in seveeral shots. This is the first I’ve heard of Bush having a Scottie (maybe it was the reporter’s). Does anyone know?

two darlings in my home. I am presently looking for a puppy as I lost my beloved Lucee two years ago to cancer.
